Google AdWords To Reach Frustrated Writers

Google AdWords Promotion

A recent Google promotion has prompted my decision to try Google AdWords. AdWords is yet another great program that Google has created as a way to help writers (and others) promote their online writing activities. It's a way to control your advertising budget easily, on a day-to-day basis. As a promotion to get new AdWords members, they are currently giving $100 coupons to join. I'm wondering just how well this mode of advertising is going to work for me. I have to admit, it's an area that is new for me, since my only mode of advertising so far has been for me to post small classified ads. I've often thought about Google AdWords, but never really looked into the program. Google's popularity is widespread. The Adsense program has swept the nation (actually the world). It is one of the most used contextual advertising opportunities on the internet. Google AdWords is it's counterpart,and is equally as popular, thanks to it's many advertising members who bid and compete for ad words. Soon, I'll see just how the whole thing really works.

Google Adsense for Contextual Advertising

If you write for pay, you can probably credit whatever ad revenue money you receive to Google Adsense. Those cute little ads that are placed strategically on thousands and thousands of pages have become the answer to a lot of freelance writer's prayers. The frustrated writer that once struggled to find a paying gig can now stop waiting around and make something happen themselves. A little creativity and a lot of motivation and stamina online can go a long way. New writers have cropped up everywhere, and they come in every shape, size and genre. Bloggers, Hubbers,content writers and various types of affiliate marketers are all enjoying pieces of the Google pie! With so many millions of dollars changing back and forth through our collective Google hands, why are there still frustrated writers? For every successful article writer online, there are probably 100 more that aren't making a dime. This is a great cause of frustration.

Why Some Writers Continue To Be Frustrated

Some writers continue to be frustrated because although the potential to earn, and even the opportunity to earn, is right there before them, it doesn't usually come easy. It takes a lot of consistent work and a WHOLE lot of focus. The excessive frustration comes in when new writers began to measure their own success by the next writer. Overly focusing on someone else means you're probably not focused on yourself enough! You can't expect to be receiving the same results as the veteran writer that has been diligently at it for some years. You can't realistically expect to make tons of money from doing absolutely nothing. And you really shouldn't expect to be rolling in Google money after a few days or weeks of simply placing ads. Things really don't usually happen that way.

I say it doesn't usually happen that way, because there's always some new writer always ready to say "I knew a friend of a friend of a friend that was an overnight success, thanks to Google." It's true, there have been cases of some new writers who generated a large and regular income stream literally overnight using Google and other contextual advertisers. I'm sure their methods and frequency of marketing and traffic generating had to play a key role. Whatever the case, they are the exception to the rule. Freelance writers set out to write for pay everyday. They turn to Google to earn a residual income. Many of them have a lot of great creative and innovative ideals. Too bad that the first few months, they make very little, if any money through contextual ads. By the time they WOULD have started generating a small but regular income, they've threw up their hands and thrown in the towel!

Frustrated Writers Can Motivate One Another

Frustrated writers need to take the time to network and exchange links with other writers. Leaving your comments and sharing both your ups and your downs with other writers can help. Even though you feel like a frustrated writer, you can motivate another writer. We learn and grow through sharing our personal triumphs and defeats in life. The same thing is true online. I'd say about 90% of the different kind of paid writers who use Google have said the same thing. They didn't see ANY money from Google until about the fourth or fifth month, and then it was barely enough to meet the $50 payout thresh-hold (it's $100 now). When I first began to read those type of statements, at first it depressed me. But then I realized, the slump or lull in my financial success was NORMAL. I started to reason, if the other writers were right about the DOWNSIDE, they're probably right about the UPSIDE! And they were. After one long year of dedicated research and observation on the subject, I also agree with those statements. As the months go by, the few Google drips I used to receive have become full grown drops! LOL

Seriously, I have finally begun to get paid enough to know I couldn't possibly give up now! I'm putting the pieces together more and more, day by day and my Google success is looming (I've written a lot of valuable information on Google and the challenges of writing for pay). So I guess it is about time for me to go to the next phase - Google AdWords.

New Ways To Promote Your Writing

Networking online with other writers provides a great opportunity to find new ways to promote your writing. Just this week alone, I found out about two great websites and I have started using them to promote my blogs, my webpages, and my HubPage articles that I've written.

The name of the two websites are:

"She Told Me" and " Who Hub

Both of them are relatively new and they both have the potential to be a serious promotional vehicle. With "She Told Me", you get an opportunity to promote your blogs, articles, and webpages by witing a brief "scoop" about them, then inserting your url address in order to link directly to the page. This is for you writers that are looking for ways to get the word out about your blogs, articles, webpages, and anything else you may be doing on line. Networking online has never been better!

As for the other site, "Who Hub", they allow you to interview yourself (so to speak), by answering a bunch of questions pertaining to your field of choice. They allow you to add url addresses to promote yourself as well. They even encourage it, as does "She Told Me". I've only just gotten acquainted with these sites, but I plan on writing some in depth information on them soon. Until then, take a moment to pop over and look at the format of these two sites.

Focus On Writing And The Earnings Will Grow

In my quest for more discipline in writing, I've decided to focus on writing and the earnings will grow. I've just started making a regular salary from getting paid a flat rate for various type of articles. In doing so, I've been having a tough time trying not to get sidetracked with watching my earnings. I work within certain deadlines, therefore the earnings from my writing grows in increments, depending on when they're accepted and paid.

Getting paid a flat rate for your articles is a great way to build writing endurance. There's nothing like having the confidence of writing and knowing your payment is on it's way to the bank. But watching that payment from the moment it is posted to your writer's account, until the moment it is actually paid to your bank, can be counterproductive. I enjoy writing for a living (even when I wasn't making any money), and now that I'm actually writing and getting paid, I want to increase my momentum. This, like everything else, will take discipline.

If you work for Demand Studios, another writer's website, or some other client that consistently pays you to write articles on a flat fee basis, it can end up being very lucrative. Once you establish a good routine, a good source for research and online references, and start focusing on the freedom of writing for pay, the earnings will begin to grow and grow.

A New Source Of Online Income

Blogging For Pay

Recently I found a new source of online income, and it took me away from my blogs. Blog writing can be time consuming for some writers. You first start out with a plan to write everyday, sometimes all day, but that plan is short lived. One thing or another ends up crowding into your blogging time. If you blog for fun, it won't make too big a difference when you resume posting (though you may lose a little of your fan base). But if you're blogging for pay, lapses in posting can be a problem. When your blog (or blogs) is a source of income for you, adjustments must be made. posts. I found it frustrating, bouncing around trying to stretch my time in order to generate income blogging, while writing in other ways, for pay. A frustrated writer means a less productive writer.

The Demand For Discipline

I am now writing consistently for a website that pays me a flat fee per article. I have a great demand for discipline in my writing life, more than ever before. My blogs that had been making me a small amount of regular income in the past have begun to suffer. A good writing schedule demands that you take time to prioritize so you can get all the necessary writing done. Once again, I am readjusting my writing schedule to accommodate all my "write for pay" activities. Exercising more discipline means making time to write my blogs (at least those that are generating an income) and to get my "daily article writing" done and published.

My new source of online income is a great website called: DEMAND STUDIOS and I absolutely love them! I feel the same way as I did when I first discovered Constant Content as a legitimate source of writing income. I had cooled off on Constant Content, because the writing is all done on spec. That means you write, you submit and you hold your breath, hoping your article gets selected for purchase. Demand Studios is NOT spec writing. Unlike Constant Content, once you "claim" an assignment, you're the only one writing it, and if you write a quality article, per the format and guidelines that are specified, you can count on getting paid!

I'll be posting more about the Demand Studios website and how it works, later. I plan to take a few moments and write a breif article about the site, so be sure to return for details.

Holiday Season - A Good Reason to Start Writing! For Pay

Affiliate Marketing - Hopping On And Off The Tracks

When we use the term affiliate marketing, to some people, it conjures up images of used car salesmen trying to sell us a bunch of junk. Yes, affiliate marketing is the stepchild of online writing. Her other children (writers) don't look too kindly on their step sibling.

That is the overall feeling about affiliate marketing. No one seems to like the ideal of someone selling them something, no matter how much they may love, or need to buy! Maybe that's why I always try to shy away from the kind of writing that I am constantly drawn to doing. I keep hopping on and off the track when it comes to affiliate marketing. I see a lot of great products that I think about advertising, and in a number of ways. But if things don't work out like I want, and when I want, I get discouraged, and move on.

Yet, I love this kind of writing and I end up returning! I am a freelance writer, first and foremost, but when it comes to the things I like to write about, making money online happens to be top of the list. If that puts me in the category of step child, so be it.

Why the conversation about this topic today? I've gone back to one of my previous blogs that I started, and began posting on it again. The title of the blog: Motivating Marketing Newbies(MMN). I loved creating and writing it, because, like the Motivating Constant Content Writers blog, I felt that I was sincerely helping new writers. This getting paid online business is not an easy thing. It can and probably will, wear your spirit down if you're not taking some kind of safeguard to stay plugged in to like minded people and stay motivated.

Self Promotion - Tedious But Profitable

Monday mornings are always a good time to embark on a new ad campaign, once you decide to start self-promoting. Self-promotion can be tedious, but definitely profitable! I have come to stop taking for granted the two to three hours that I put in on a daily basis (in a perfect world:) doing my ad posting and other self promoting activities.

The Key Is To Have A Plan

The important thing to remember when posting ads and using the other self-promotion strategies I told you about in the article dealing with the art of self-promotion is to have some kind of plan in mind. Just keep reminding yourself that your efforts will help to:

* Increase Your Ad Revenue Earnings
* Help Generate Page Traffic

Watch Out For The THEIF!

I caution everyone, especially writers, to watch out for the procrastination thief!!! Procrastination can lead to the loss of money, romance, and a whole lof of other missed opportunities. Don't drag your feet when it comes to writing. Get on the horse and start off at a GALLOP! I've actually created a project for the upcoming week, that I refer to as the "EXPERIMENT", because it involves doing some serious observing and analyzing of my writing and online efforts to promote my writing.

I can only say right now, I believe this little observation will prove to be productive for me as well as a good lesson in self-promotion.

Taking Time To Monitor Success

Greetings & Salutations,

Although the hour is late and my mind is weary after a long day, I wanted to spend a few minutes discussing the importance of taking time to monitor success. This is extremely important to your money making efforts, no matter what type of "write for pay" activities you engage in. I bring this point up for a good reason.

This week, as was brought out in an earlier post, I engaged in a promotional activity that ended up doubling my Google earnings. Needless to say, I was thrilled at the ideal of increasing my earnings. I was also naive enough to think that the next day, and every day after that, I would be able to double my profits. Well that didn't happen, and thank goodness I was at least smart enough to not get discouraged when I couldn't repeat the results. Believe me, discouragement has no place in your "write for pay" endeavors.

While I have yet to figure out how I CAN actually duplicate my activities to achieve better results, I am glad to report that I have continued to see at least a small increase each day. This is a good thing, and definitely lets me know I'm on the right track. Even if it takes a while to fully understand the dynamics of your contextual advertising, it is worth it to continue to monitor your own progress if you want to have continued success.

Writing articles is only part of your "write for pay" efforts. The marketing and promotional part that you may or may not want to do is still mandatory for your online success. Taking time to monitor your success will only prove to increase your success. This is true even if you only submit articles to writing sites that purchase work, with no type of contextual ads involved. You will still need to monitor which of your submissions are accepted and why, versus those that don't seem to get any attention at all.

Take the time, and when necessary, MAKE the time to monitor your activities, thereby monitoring your success. When the profits finally begin to roll in, you'll be glad you did!

I’m very excited about today’s post, because it is the first official post for this particular blog, since the initial launch revolved around a 5 part blog series. Hopefully you have read all five installments of “Are You Thinking About Writing For Pay?” If not, you can scroll up to the top of this page and start visiting the available links located in the right-hand column. This very detailed blog series will provide you with all kinds of valuable information about different ways to write for pay.

One of the most successful ways to write for pay is through Google Adsense ads. A discussion of this information can be found in the right sidebar of “Are You Thinking About Writing For Pay?” While the information provided discusses the method, this particular blog post: “How Craigslist Ads Increased My Blog's Google Earnings” tells you about a website that can help you get the most from your contextual advertising.

The money-making strategy I am about to share with you is only one out of many ways that you can write for pay using your blog and Google ads. HERE’S HOW I INCREASED MY GOOGLE EARNINGS USING CRAIGSLIST

First, I Created A Very Informative & Useful Blog

This blog tells people about different ways they can improve their financial situation by doing something completely within their means to do. In order to do this, I used the various methods and strategies found in the article How to Write A Daily Blog And Make Money With Google Ad Sense. I also incorporated a lot of the concepts that are woven throughout my different articles about getting paid for writing online. Many of those articles deal directly with creating content that is appealing to the reader, as well as being useful and informative. You can view a list of the articles and get more details by clicking on the various links that are provided in the FIFTH blog of the write for pay series.

Next, I Made Sure My Blog Was Monetized

Monetizing is just a way of structuring your page to include Google ads, as well as other contextual advertising. The great thing with using a Blog host like Blogger is that they have a relationship with Google, and are already set up to help you run Google ads with very little ease. You just want to make sure that your content is written in a way that Google or whoever else you choose as advertisers, understand the theme of your blog. This way they can generate the right ads to accompany your writing. For More About Other Contextual Advertising - SEE: “Writing & Contexual Ads” section in the sidebar of the blog series.

Last, I Ran Some Brief Craigslist Ads

Using a popular classified ad network to run ads allowed me to introduce people to the valuable information found in my blog. Since I am already familiar with using craigslist to run all types of classified ads, this was fairly easy for me.

NOTE: For purposes of this particular post I will assume that my readers are familiar with the craigslist ad network, and already know about setting up ads. This way, I can proceed with the information on how to increase your Google earnings by using the craigslist ad network. I apologize to those of you who may not be knowledgeable about craigslist, and I will be creating a future blog post, specifically about how craigslist actually works. Meanwhile, you can go visit the site and sign up for a free account (optional). You’ll get a chance to see how very user-friendly the site really is.

CONCLUSION

I spent about two hours posting small but effective ads on craigslist. After strategically placing them in categories that I believed would appeal to writers and bloggers of all walks of life, I went about the rest of my writing day. To my sheer surprise and delight, I woke up the next morning and checked my Google ad stats (this allows you to see exactly how much money you’ve made with Google at any given time) and my earnings had actually doubled! In less than one day, the amount that had taken me at least a good two months to earn, had doubled!!!

Well, needless to say, I couldn’t wait to blog about this and share my excitement. What better place to post this information, than in a blog about writing for pay? I plan on continuing my ad campaign (now I have created a whole strategy around my activities). I will post my results to this blog in the future.

After attempting to duplicate my above efforts, to achieve the same result, I experienced a wave of discouragement because I couldn't figure it out. I THINK I duplicated my efforts, but TOO many variables come into play, such as: The categories I placed ads in, the time of day ads were posted, the verbiage I used in the ads, and so on, and so forth. When I wasn't able to immediately achieve the same results, I have to say that I was disgusted, and DISCONTINUED my efforts. At first I simply reduced my efforts, and I saw a reduction in earnings, but I still earned everyday. But dropping down to merely two dollars a day and not understanding why ticked me off, so I eventually got sidetracked, along with my discouragement, and stopped my activities.

My latest efforts will be to continue experimenting, and work hard on duplicating the success I had that day.

No matter which of the writing websites that you have found to be of particular interest, no matter which sites you end up getting paid to write articles for, here are some tips that will help you increase your earnings.

In order to increase traffic to your articles that generate income via contextual ads, be sure to introduce yourself to the community and forums. No matter which site you are writing for, you cannot afford to take the community and its forums for granted. If you do, you will be cutting yourself out of a lot of potential earnings.

The appearance of your writing can cause viewers to stay and read what you have to say, or flee immediately after arriving to view your information. When deciding on topics to write about, a simple rule applies, regardless of how you hope to generate income with your writing. One thing all writing websites where you get paid to write at seem to have in common, the need for quality content. They either pay you directly to write articles that people are searching for, or you get paid as a result of the contextual ads that are placed in conjunction with your writing. Either way, those websites rely on interesting, fresh and searchable web content to be provided by writers like yourself. That means selecting topics that people can relate to and search for on a daily basis. For example, topics like relationships, pregnancy, money, sports, health and beauty, events, clothing, and other subjects that tend to rank high on the search engine search lists.

You realize your livelihood depends on it. The same must be true when it comes to your freelance writing career. If you want to be viewed as a professional and get paid on a regular basis, you have to perfect your writing.

Getting paid to write may take more time for some than for others. Some may start earning a substantial amount of money right off the bat, depending on their skills and writing methods. Others may only have a small amount of revenue begin to trickle in slowly.

The important thing to remember about writing for pay and successfully generating a writing income is: Nothing is written in stone! You may be the writer that gets paid to write articles for sites like Constant Content, and they regularly sale for $50 to $100. Or maybe you won’t do well getting paid to write requested content, but you have a knack for selecting just the right topics that let you generate a great income with your Google or other contextual ads. Maybe you stop writing articles altogether and you begin to focus on a writer’s compensation referral program. The point is, your online writing success is completely dependent on you and what you want to get out of it. Once you know what that is, you will know how much you will need to put into it as well.

One of the most solid sources I’ve found for generating income with my writing is a site called Constant Content. The site offers different opportunities, depending on what kind of writing you want to do. If you like to select your own topics, and simply write what you feel like writing (hopefully with some kind of method to your madness for the sake of monetizing), you can do that. However, Constant Content also provides writers a chance to write on spec, usually as a ghostwriter, though oftentimes limited rights and a byline maybe retained. This is the area I like to write for because it means writing articles that are just as the category describes them, “Requested Content”. Customers are specifically asking for the information you’ll be writing about. Even though other writers will also respond to the requests, your writing still has a chance to be selected for purchase. This is especially so when customers request multiple articles to be written on the same subject.

Constant Content has a very good Writer’s Compensation program and I have had a great deal of success in signing writers up to write for pay. That’s actually the easy part, but in all honesty, the writers that sign up HURRIEDLY and don’t bother to use the valuable information I’ve provided (completely free of charge), end up fizzling out. Some never even publish one article, let alone have their articles purchased. They just give up when things don’t go precisely as they imagine, in the time they imagine. That is why I provide the necessary details to help you sign up and approach writing for Constant Content with the right attitude.

Constant Content has very specific rules, policies and procedures. They pay better than any writing website that I have found or that anyone has brought to my attention. I think, under those circumstances, they should be allowed to set stringent rules.

Another favorite and profitable writer’s website of mine is HubPage. I most especially like the HubPages community of writers. They’re real friendly and not only eager to learn but eager to share what they know. But when it comes to writing for pay, HubPages is more than just a friendly writing community and they are not to be underestimated.
HubPages is a very diverse writing community and it’s easy to get sidetracked with all the “networking”. As the article I have written about HubPages brings out, “Hubbers come from all walks of life… The articles the Hubbers write provide an interesting and effective enticement to the ads that are displayed on the article page. “ Hubbers typically comment on fellow Hubber’s writing. I have mentioned that I am still compiling information on the e-How website, however, I felt it was necessary to still mention them in this area because it is another site that I make money on. I’ve read information indicating the revenue that is generated at the e-How website is due to Google Ads, but they are apparently positioned exclusively by the e=How and/or Google site. I never set up any ads for my e-How articles, nor do I recall selecting anything that indicated I was designating ad placements. Yet, I have earned a few dollars from a couple of my articles posted there and my monies continue to grow.

Because e-How has such a fun and informal format (especially compared to Constant Content), I recommend writing for them, just to add some diversity to your writing agenda. While you actually earn money in a different way, and the rules aren’t as rigid, you can still earn a nice bit of change, that will continue to increase over time.

The pay for “Requested Content” at this site can range anywhere from $10 to $200! It’s worth any extra submission inconveniences. (This site, I particularly endorse, although in some cases, it requires patience getting past the submission process. I’ve made the majority of my online cash writing for pay for this site)
